Our Favourite Treatments for Men

But at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, we wholeheartedly believe that beauty defies gender, and skincare for men is equally as important as it is for women. There are many men who value their looks just as much as their female counterparts do.

But of course, men and women do age differently. Certain treatments that are popular amongst women may not necessarily be as effective or desirable for men. That’s why we want to talk about our favorite cosmetic treatments for men, and the best services we offer our male clientele.

Med-Spa Treatments Available For Men

Botox & Dysport

Botox and Dysport are two types of botulinum toxin injections that are wildly popular for treating facial wrinkles and fine lines, in particular the horizontal lines of the forehead and 11-lines between the brows. Though they are both neurotoxins derived from botulinum, both block nerve signals to your muscles, and both are safe, non-surgical options for wrinkle treatment, they do have some key differences.

Botox is the brand name for the most common form of botulinum toxin, it is used to treat wrinkles primarily on the upper third of the face, including the 11-lines, forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. Results from Botox usually take a bit longer than Dysport, but because Botox is available in a “medical” version (as opposed to cosmetic) it is often used for services covered by insurance, such as hyperhydrosis (excess sweating) and Bruxism (grinding of the teeth).

Dysport is essentially a modern version of the original Botox. Like Botox it is most commonly used in the upper third of the face to reduce wrinkles and lines. It is often described as having a “lighter” feel and seems to start working a few days earlier than its predecessor. Because it is not available in a “medical” version we generally don’t use it when treating insured services.

Botox Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis treatment can be a very useful form of Botox for men, as it seeks to resolve excessive sweating, which is an issue more typical with men than women. Botox hyperhidrosis involves injecting Botox into the areas of your body that sweat (usually the armpits), to reduce sweating. Most clients come back twice a year for this treatment and we can work with your insurance company for coverage.

Dermal Fillers

You read that right, fillers aren’t just for women! In fact, fillers for men have ballooned in popularity over the last decade. Many men now choose to get dermal fillers to create a defined jaw or smooth out their lip lines and smooth out deep smile lines. It’s the popular treatment your friends are getting!

Our Most Popular Issues And Areas For Male Treatment

Just like women, there are a variety of aesthetic treatments that men are interested in. It often varies from case to case. However, we have noticed there are some ‘trouble’ areas that are more popular than others for men specifically.

These tend to be the “11 lines”, or the frown lines in between your eyes, and jaw definition. 11 lines are some of the most prominent wrinkles and fine lines that appear as men age, so Dysport injections for this area tend to be one of the most common anti-aging treatments for men.

On the other hand, jaw definition is an aesthetic choice that can affect men of any age. Restylane derma filler injections can be used to create a defined jawline, and lasts up to a year. A defined jaw is often considered one of the most important aesthetic features for men, so it’s no surprise that this treatment is popular.
