Defining Your Jawline With Fillers
We all have different facial shapes. For some, a round or oval face shape might be in the cards — while for others, a more angular bone structure describes you best.
Whatever the case, there are many of us who have either round faces where the jawline is very subtle or the opposite case, where the jawline is overly pronounced (eg. a square jawline).
While there is, of course, nothing wrong with either, some might prefer a slimmer or more subtle look in their facial shape.
Lo and behold, there’s jawline contouring.
Not sure what jawline contouring is or how it can help “fix” your jawline without surgery?
In this article, we’ll review all things related to jawline contouring — including the two options we offer at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics. We hope our jawline contouring options can help you on your journey to feeling your most confident.
How does jawline contouring at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics work? Once upon a time, the only way for those looking to give their face a slimmer, more oval or “heart” shape was to undergo jaw reduction surgery. Today, a more subtle jawline can now be achieved with jawline contouring. At Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, we offer two different types of jawline contouring:
1. Masseter Botox
One of the main muscles in your jawline is called the masseter (which is a chewing muscle). When this muscle is large or well-defined, it can result in the appearance of a “square” jawline or a wider face shape. This procedure works when Botox is injected directly into the masseter muscles. As this causes the muscles to relax, it also causes them to shrink somewhat — thereby slimming the lower half of the face. Masseter reduction is also a great way to decrease teeth grinding, which can be more common in those with larger or more wider-set jawlines.
2. Jawline Contouring with Filler (Restylane)
Restylane is an injectable filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is actually a natural compound found inside the body’s connective tissues. Restylane is commonly used to restore facial volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases and imperfections in the face.
Jawline contouring with Restylane is achieved when the injected compound helps fill the cheeks and softens the harshness of the jawline, to achieve a more rounded facial appearance.
How much does jawline contouring cost?
At Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, the cost for Masseter Botox is approximately $200-400. For jawline contouring with Restylane, the cost begins at $575. For those looking for a stronger effect, we suggest considering one of our Packages — where we’re currently offering a 15% rebate on all of our services!
In all, jawline contouring is also typically much less costly than any surgical procedure you can expect to undergo for your jawline (in addition to being far less invasive).
How many treatments are needed for jawline contouring?
As alluded to above, how many treatments you require for your jawline contouring will really depend on your current facial shape and the desired shape that you’re seeking. On average, Botox will reduce the masseters after 1-2 treatments — while jawline contouring with Restylane (filler) will be immediate.
At Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, the effects of our jawline contouring treatments typically last 9-13 months.
Who is eligible for jawline contouring?
Jawline contouring is available to virtually anyone who wants it.
As mentioned, this is a non-surgical procedure that is minimally invasive.
However, like most procedures, there are a couple of exceptions (most notably, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will not be able to undergo jawline contouring). However, if you don’t have any underlying health conditions and you’re seeking a change in your jawline, jawline contouring is worth checking out!
