Restylane for a More Defined Look

You can enhance your natural features and correct asymmetries with dermal fillers like Restylane or Juvederm. This surgery-free cosmetic treatment uses hyaluronic acid, found naturally in the skin, to provide volume and definition to your face. Whether you want plumper lips or smoothing out undereye hollows, a hyaluronic filler can help you achieve your goals with minimal discomfort and downtime.

Facial Contour: a Centuries-Long Trend

You have probably seen the trend of facial contouring all over social media. This makeup technique involves the dramatic application of light and dark shades on the face. The makeup is blended out to give a more structured and defined look to the facial features.

This practice didn’t just start with Instagram stars. It actually dates back several centuries to the Elizabethan era, when stage actors would use contouring techniques to enhance their facial expressions.

Now, many people use dermal fillers for facial contouring techniques, enhancing their cheekbones, and giving structure to their jawlines. While the celebrities tend to have an overdone look that is ideal only on Instagram, we prefer a more moderate, natural looking approach. Remember, if your friends can’t tell why you look so good, we’re doing our job well!

An Intro to Restylane

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid based medical gel that is injected by one of our Cosmetic Nurses to smooth out undereye hollows, plump and contour lips and contour cheek and jawlines for long lasting results. The appointments take about 60 minutes and involved application of a numbing cream for comfort. Most treatments involve some mild bruising but minimal true downtime.

What to Expect

First, our medical director will meet with you to ensure you’re medically suitable for the treatment. While this is often a formality, every once in a while we have to say no to someone, mainly because of pregnancy, breastfeeding or if you are flying within two weeks of treatment. Once we’ve ensured you’re safe to have the treatments, one of our Cosmetics Nurses will meet with you to discuss your goals and perform the actual treatment! Because the medical gel causes the contouring as it goes in, the effects are immediate, although can take some time for swelling to settle and final results to become apparent. We always recommend a complimentary two week follow up to ensure you love your look!

At this point, you may have several questions about the Restylane treatment and what you can expect. Consider booking a complimentary consultation with one of our Cosmetic Nurses to discuss your goals.

Results and Recovery

Recovery time after Restylane is minimal since the treatment is non-surgical and involves ultra-thin needles. If you notice any discomfort at the treatment site, feel free to apply ice to the area to bring down swelling and minimize bruising. After treatment, you may notice mild swelling, redness, and bruising but this will disappear within a few days to a week or so. Once the treatment site has healed, you can enjoy your new look with dermal fillers for up to two years.

To get the most out of your fillers, make sure to follow the proper care instructions given to you after your appointment. This involves staying hydrated, using sunscreen, and not putting pressure on the site that could shift the filler location.
